Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an internationally recognized certification for organic textiles. Since its introduction in 2006, Has proven its practicality and is supported by the growing demand for organic fibers and unified processing standards across the industry and retail sectors. The goal of GOTS is to establish requirements that ensure the organic status of textiles, from raw material harvesting through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing, all the way to labeling. This provides credible assurance to the end consumer.

GOTS is considered the world’s leading standard for processing textiles made from organic fibers. It sets high environmental criteria for the entire supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria. Only textiles containing at least 70% organic fibers are eligible for GOTS certification. All chemicals, such as dyes and auxiliaries, must meet strict environmental and toxicological standards. The choice of accessories is also restricted based on ecological considerations. Additionally, a functional wastewater treatment plant is mandatory for any wet-processing unit, and all processors must adhere to minimum social criteria.

The aim of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is to define requirements to ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labeling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.

GOTS is recognized as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well. Only textile products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibers can become GOTS certified. All chemical inputs such as dyestuffs and auxiliaries used must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria. The choice of accessories is limited in accordance with ecological aspects as well.
